Sonic Generations to be playable at Summer of Sonic
Jun 2nd
Well now I’m even more excited to go now.
That’s right, the fan Summer of Sonic convention has recently revealed in a recent blog post that Sonic Generations will indeed to playable their. There will be several pods dotted around the venue with the demo for all to play. Also playable will be Mario and Sonic at the London Olympic Games. But really, who cares when Sonic Generations will be there?
I’m legitimately excited, guys. Can’t wait to play this and tell you about it. But more excited to play it mind you.

So we haven’t heard about Rise of Nightmares in a while. Apart from the fact that it will of course be make it to E3, news has been sparse. However you can’t keep a good ghoul down (did I really just write that?) so Sega has released it’s box art. You can see this box art and some assorted fuzzy screenshots after the jump!

Sonic chess magazine cancelled
May 31st
You may remember, quite a while ago actually that there were plans for a Sonic chess set, to be collected through various issues of a magazine series. Well unfortunately, the series has been cancelled. Revealed in a letter to early subscribers they “had to cease publication of Sonic the Hedgehog Chess Set Collection.” They didn’t reveal more than that however as it was “due to circumstances beyond our control.”
Subscribers shouldn’t worry though as each of them was sent a free LED keyring, free of charge. Yay. Well at least there’s that. And who knows, maybe some day far off in the future we might get something similar to this. Maybe.

New Sonic Generations details revealed in new Nintendo Power
May 29th
While there has been many various rumours regarding a 3DS version of the upcoming Sonic Generations game, it’s existence has finally been confirmed through the next issue of Nintendo Power magazine. The actual issue reveals that both classic and modern stages will take place in side scrolling levels.
More important however is the reveal of classic Robotnik who will make another appearance next to classic Sonic. Also expected are new versions of the famous Casino Night Zone. These details definitely sit well with me and personally I can’t wait for for either versions of Sonic Generations to be released near the end of this year.

New Shining Force: Cross Raid trailer teases western fans
May 28th
Shining Force: Cross Raid is an upcoming instalment in the ever popular Shining Force RPG series. The gameplay is said to be very similar to the Phantasy Star Online games and certainly looks like a ton of fun from that trailer. What’s the catch? It’s an arcade game. In Japan. Exclusively.
Yes unfortunately you reading this may never get a chance to try it. Unless you have enough money to get a plane to Japan just to play it. Which in that case, can I have some of your money Mr. Branson?

New Retro City Rampage footage shows off arcade mode
May 26th
Rampaging Retro City – Retro City Rampage from Vblank on Vimeo.
The retro inspired indie game Retro City Rampage coming up may not be Sega related, but as you can see it definitely has some Sega references to enjoy. Either way the game looks like a ton of fun and as the above footage demonstrates, features good arcade styled hilarity for all to enjoy.
So yeah, I’m pretty excited. But what about you? Does this actually appear relevant to your interests or are you as hyped for all these madcap retro references as I am? Let me know in the comments!

Woah did you see that?
So yeah, youtube user ‘BloodyRenegadeX’ has recently come into the spotlight after making some seriously awesome flipbooks. Man this guy must have immense patience. He’s also done a couple more of them which are seriously impressive. I still can’t get over it. He must be a robot. That’s the only way it can make any sense.

Review: Thor – God of Thunder (DS)
May 24th
It’s no surprise that movie tie in games aren’t really that good. When the time limit to actually develop them is severely limited by the film’s release date, developers often find themselves cutting corners and releasing something that goes out to unamused hatred among reviewers. This is always the case with full blown 3D console games, but as 2D games are mildly easier to produce, sometimes we get a fun gem that’s actually worth playing.
Last year for example we had the Scott Pilgrim movie adaptation, and while it didn’t provide me with a meaningful deep experience that will stay with me forever, it was a quick and fun blast to play. So with this stated, is the 2D Thor game for the DS, at least a quick, fun game to play on the short bus journey home? The answer unfortunately may not surprise you. More >
