Check out this awesome Phantasy Star concert trailer
Mar 15th
To commemorate the Phantasy Star series 25th anniversary Sega have decided to go all out with a full blown orchestra concert. This Japan-only exclusive show (conducted by Masamichi Amano, and performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra) will cover the entire spectrum of this series, giving one of gamings most recognisable RPG franchise’s a proper celebration. The concert itself will feature 10 different songs, and if that wasn’t enough reason to go everyone coming will receive exclusive music themed items for hugely popular Phantasy Star Online 2!
Above you can see the trailer for the concert which mainly just shows off the new items available at the concert. The event itself will take place on March 30th in the Hibiya Public Hall, Tokyo, and is sure to be a blast for all involved! Who knows maybe if they like it enough in Japan it’ll make it’s way over to the West… right? Right? Right?!!
New Phantasy Star Online 2 update features rad new boss
Mar 9th
With the games North American and European releases coming into focus it’s hard to forget that Phantasy Star Online 2 has been making it’s way in Japan for almost a year now. As such it’s been a while since Japanese gamers got new content for it, so luckily Sega has added a bunch of new stuff in the MMO’s most recent update. The main new features are a new awesome looking boss (dubbed the ‘Chrome Dragon’) and a host of new weapons that were added to the mix. The new items consist of assault rifles, partisans, and a fancy new rod to play with (heh) ensuring that players will have a lot more to try out with this new update.
But wait! There’s more!
The Playstation Vita version will be getting a new story section for the game entitled ‘The First Farewell’ that will explore the new boss featured. It is also set to detail the disappearance of Kuni, Phantasy Star Online 2‘s in-game mascot. The new exclusive PC content however is the less story driven ‘Arks Combat Tournament’, which looks to be a less plot focused score attack mission.
The new boss is all dependent on triggering cut-scenes and achieving specific conditions. Sounds fun and all but this is just making me even less patient now for the game over here. Alas, we here at Sega Addicts will be detailing the new stuff made available for us when we get to play Phantasy Star Online 2 later this year. Just a couple more months to go!

London Gaming Con to strike back in May, will feature Mike Pollock
Mar 2nd
I don’t know if you saw my feature last year about the fabulous London Gaming Con, but it was a fun-filled weekend chock-full of laughs (or ‘laffs’ if you wanna be kooky about it). Well the ‘Animeleague’ are back once again this year with a convention that’s bound to delight fans of videogames (and Sega) to the core. To prove this a recent press release has stated that famed Sonic voice actor Mike Pollock will even be a guest. If you ever wanted to meet the voice of everyone’s favourite Sonic antagonist then now is finally your chance!
The event will also feature hundreds of other fans, cosplay events, and even a Golden Axe tournament to wet your lips. The promise from the event organizers is that the convention will be ‘better than ever’, with a ton to do and a big space to do it in. Indeed the convention this year is taking place in the Rocket Complex, London Metropolitan University again. So there’ll be no shortage of space to get your game on. The con itself will take place on 4-5 May and you can get your tickets here. Also if you’re going make sure to find me and say hello as i’m more than happy to cover the event for the site. See you there!

This Freedom Planet video shows off new character Milla
Mar 1st
Sonic inspired indie game Freedom Planet has certainly been picking up a lot of steam since it’s hugely successful Kickstarter. Keeping this in mind, Stephen DiDuro has been sharing the game making process to it’s backers, including an exclusive peek at a new playable character and stage viewable to you above! When talking about the new character ‘Milla’, DiDuro commented that:
Milla isn’t as strong or durable as her friends, but she has a variety of moves that are good for exploring. She can summon and launch barriers, float in the air, pick up and throw item boxes, or create her own blocks out of thin air!
Very interesting indeed. I personally love the new animations displayed here and can’t wait to learn more about this game as the development progresses. Be rest assured that we here will keep you in the know as soon as anything new or important is displayed! But so far it’s all looking good and Milla looks like a ton of fun to play. Can not wait for this one!

The Sega Addicts Kids Table: Episode 63 – Brilliant New York Accents
Feb 25th
Hey bub! Grab yourself a coffee and a bagel because this week The Sega Addicts Kids Table takes a New York twist for no discernible reason! By that I mean that I (Stevie) confuse both Josh and John with my amazing impressions. It has to be heard to be believed.
Apart from possibly offending every New York listener with my awesome accent, we also discuss Microsoft’s old plans to buy Sega in the Dreamcast era, and tackle the whole mess that is the Aliens: Colonial Marines controversy. So sit back and- HEY HEY HEY IM WALKIN’ OVER ‘ERE! That’s something people from New York say right? Anyways enjoy!
Or go to our iTunes and subscribe! Review us and I won’t do anything drastic!
Also sorry this episode is a tad late. Blame the shitty functionality of the human mind.

Enemy Zero creator Kenji Eno dies aged 42
Feb 22nd
Beloved gaming figure and developer Kenji Eno has sadly passed away as of February 20th. The 42 year old Enemy Zero and D creator was said to have suffered a heart attack two nights from this story. Tragically he leaves behind a wife, as well as a lifetime of work easily recognisable to fans of Japanese gaming.
As big fans of his work I can say that all of us here at Sega Addicts will miss his unique blend of horror that scared us all back in the day. Recently he was known for the strange Wii offering You, Me and The Cubes as well as his musical contributions to the industry. Talking about music, his 1997 Dreamcast game Real Sound was the first game fully playable for the blind. Now that’s an accomplishment.
A memorial service is being held in Tokyo on February 25th to celebrate this industry icon.

The Cave makes its way to Ouya library
Feb 16th
With the Ouya making its way to stores soon it’s time to start looking at what games the Android console can provide us with. Double Fine is actually going to be adding their Sega collaboration The Cave to the system in a bid to add to the machines log of exciting downloadable titles. However don’t get too excited over that idea just yet as producer Greg Rice has confirmed that development of the Ouya port hasn’t even started yet.
Double Fine’s other game, Reds (that Kick-started adventure game) will also be coming to the console, although release dates are of course still in the air at this point. The console itself is due to surface in June and I’m personally very happy to see Sega have some (admittedly small) presence on the new console. Who knows, maybe if this does well it will prompt Sega to look to the Ouya for more releases. In the meantime you can check out our review of The Cave right here if you want to know what to expect when the game will make its way to the Ouya in the near future.

New Sega machine revealed, will try to capture ‘photo-shoot experience’
Feb 15th
Sega has always been a company of many talents when it comes to the arcade business, and it seems that they are intending to branch out with their new ‘SuperBooth’ machines bound to hit outlets soon. Sega’s new photobooth machine will aim to recreate the celebrity photo-shoot experience that all 16 year old girls dream of, by accompanying your picture session with a soundtrack and flashing lights. A fan will also blow at various intervals to give you the windswept look that only an oversized novelty can provide. Sega general manager Peter Gustafson was so excited by these prospects that he was forced to create the entirely non-stupid word ‘photo-tainment’ to describe it. In a press release he also said that this machine will propel the photobooth experience into an “entirely new and refreshing direction.”
The machine was tested at the Dave & Buster’s arcade/restaurant chain, which now has 61 of these booths distributed across all the store venues. Depending on the success of this testing you can bet that you’ll probably see one pop up somewhere in a shopping centre near you. And trust me, it will. This ain’t yo daddy’s photobooth experience after all. This is paving the way for a new breed of photo-tainment! A way which Sega hopefully won’t regret.
