Sega fan project lets you browse many “classic” box covers and manuals
Mar 6th
Sega fansite, Ratigators, has a major project going to scan and upload cover art and manuals from games for the Master System, Sega CD, 32x, Saturn and Dreamcast. There’s already a pretty extensive collection of scans to go through and I you could easily lose a few hours just browsing some of these amazing box designs and manuals. I especially like the fact that they’re making the manuals available as there were a lot of games with back story and concept art that you never got to see in the actual games.
Anyone planning reliving some memories with this box art archive? Have any personal favorite covers or manuals from the past?

Sega Addicts Podcast: Episode 107 – Cover Art
Oct 13th
This week we’re joined by Sega Addicts writer, Scott Morrison, to discuss Sega cover art through the generations. To summarize: some was good, some was bad and some was confusing. We also discuss some recent Sega news, NiGHTS HD, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and try and remember Spikeout and Iron Phoenix on the Xbox.
Here’s that cover art you requested for your Angry Birds game on Sega Genesis
Oct 2nd
With the recent release of the Angry Birds ROM on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, it’s no surprise to see this cover art pop up. While not as awesome as Barry The Nomad’s Sonic 4 cover art, it’s still cool to see people getting physically artistic for digital games. I almost want this Angry Birds game and box art just for the irony of it. What do you think of this cover art and/or the port?

Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed gets a release date
Jul 12th
With San Diego Comic Con mere moments away, Sega has posted a new trailer for Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. For the most part it’s nothing new, save for one tiny thing. No, it’s not our first glimpse at a digitized Danica Patrick–it’s a release date!
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed will be hitting PS3, XBox 360, Vita and 3DS on November 16th. No word yet on the Wii U or PC versions. In conjunction with the new trailer, Sega has also released the game’s lovely box art into the wild, which you can check out after the jump.
Oh! And on one more very exciting note, we failed to mention that NiGHTS isn’t the only new character recently announced for the game’s roster. Reala, NiGHTS’s arch nemesis, will also be hitting the track come November. Both characters will take the forms of cars, and their respective adorable creatures (Nightopians and Nightmaren) will be driving them.

Phantasy Star Online 2′s service starts in Japan
Jul 5th
While we Americans spent yesterday grilling burgers and watching copious amounts of fireworks, folks over in Japan were celebrating something else–the official launch of Phantasy Star Online 2′s service. In celebration of the big event, Sega has released the launch trailer you see above.
While the game operates on a free-to-play model, there is a physical “Premium Version” coming on September 13th that will include five bonus weapons and a “Mag Evolution Device.” Hit the jump to see the cover in all its glory.
There’s still no word on whether or not we’ll see a release in the west, but something just feels right about this one. At the very least, I’m curious to see if a free-to-play MMO can help the Vita’s abysmal sales in the east, especially with the added allure of cross-platform gaming. Even if we never see it on our shores, it should be a very intriguing little experiment to watch.

Feast your eyes on the Aliens: Colonial Marines European box art
May 24th
The box art for the PAL region of Aliens: Colonial Marines has popped up on the websites of numerous European retailers, all sporting the release date of 12 Feb 2013. The box art does not differ to that of the North American version, however this can be seen as a good thing. I personally find that the box art manages to be original as well as clearly drawing from the source material, which helps distinguish it from previous, and not-so-good attempts at bringing the Alien franchise to modern gamers. Hit the jump to see the UK box art for all three releases of the game!

Sonic 1&2 compilation soundtrack receives cover art
Sep 19th

The album cover for the upcoming Sonic compilation CD was revealed during the stage show at Tokyo Games Show and I must say, it’s a lovely cover at that. I’m loving the simple design with classic Sonic’s pose, but I can’t help but wonder if that Green Hill Zone background is part of the album cover too. The album is scheduled for release on October 19th and with every 20th anniversary album so far, this is a Japan-only release. So you’ll have to pay a pretty penny and get this imported if you want it for your collection. I know I’ll be picking it up!
