Castle of Illusion remake coming this Summer
Apr 15th

Sega has officially confirmed that the HD remake of Castle of Illusion is a real thing and it will be coming to XBLA, PSN and PC this Summer. Developed by the soon to be defunct Sega Studios Australia, the game has been designed closely with the original creator and keeps many of the iconic elements intact. In addition, they will be adding some new features that were originally planned for the 16-bit classic but scrapped due to technical limitations.
Overall, I have high hopes for this remake but it’s rather unfortunate it will be Sega Studios Australia’s swan song. It also doesn’t appear to be coming to the WiiU, which isn’t too surprising. Anyone else looking forward to the remake? Do you have fond memories of the original? What do you think about the lack of a WiiU release?

Sega are probably definitely remaking Castle of Illusion
Apr 11th
It was only a few days ago that brand new box art for an XBLA version of Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse appeared on the internet. Suspicions of Sega putting out a full remake of the game in a similar vain to Capcom’s Duck Tales: Remastered, have practically been confirmed with Sega’s new teaser trailer.
While there’s nothing in the trailer that explicitly links the footage to Castle of Illusion, the end of the trailer shows that the contents are copyrighted by Disney. Someone has spent money on the trailer, as well as working up new box art instead of using the original artwork, which is more than Sega has done for their previous XBLA ports.
It’s pretty obvious that Sega, the masters of secrecy, are doing something with Castle of Illusion. But what? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

RUMOR: Castle of Illusion coming to XBLA
Apr 9th
Remastered, and HD-upgraded re-releases are all the rage right now. There are also some great simple re-releases popping up here and there. Well, we may be able to add another classic to the list if the following rumor proves true. Recently, a Brazilian rating board website displayed some information regarding the Genesis game, Castle of Illusion Starring: Mickey Mouse possibly releasing on all the major consoles through their online marketplaces. And now, some boxart for the XBLA version of the game has surfaced. It’s interesting to note that the box art does not exactly mimic the original Genesis cover.
Previous re-releases of classic games have received digital box art identical to their original version, which leads some to believe that this re-release of Castle may be more than just a re-release and possibly some sort of revamp, or entire remake of the game. With the recent of announcement of DuckTales Remastered, I would not be surprised if any or all of these rumors came true.

New Wreck-It Ralph posters showcase Sonic and more
Sep 18th
With Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph making it’s way to US cinema’s on November 2nd, it seems that the Disney hype machine is in full force. And along with a great new trailer that was recently revealed Disney has dispatched a verity of cameo themed posters featuring a few of the various game characters referenced in the movie.
Sonic even takes centre stage in one of the posters alongside Zangief and Jane Lynch’s character from the fake game Hero’s Duty. Other Sega characters star in these new posters as well, such as Dr. Robotnik and the final boss of Altered Beast. Yes really, in what perhaps is the most obscure reference to make it on a mainstream movie poster, Neff from Altered Beast appears at the front of a Disney advertisement. Pinch me.
But what’s the point of this post if you can’t even see the posters? Hit the jump to see how Sega’s characters are being marketed for this latest Disney adventure!

The Sega Addicts Kids Table: Episode 46 – Carrotblanca Noire
Jul 19th
Yet again like an oncoming freight train The Sega Addicts Kids Table shows up to bombard your ears with another podcast of delights! And this week is very different as we take an edgy ‘noire’ approach to the week’s topics. What does that mean? Not much really although we do come up with a great idea for an LA Noire spin off. I won’t spoil it for you but it has a lot to do with wacky prop comedy.
But that’s not all! Being a Sega podcast the gang (Stevie, Josh, and John) also chat about the recently announced Yakuza HD collection, as well as Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. If that doesn’t tempt you we also talk about the usefulness of Megaman X at a party and John’s awful movie experience. What did he watch? How much did it suck? Why on Earth would he watch it? Tune in to find out!
Also: Carrots.
Or go to our iTunes and subscribe! And I know that you just listened, and this is crazy. But that’s our podcast, so review us maybe?
And remember to answer this week’s Newey Needs To Knowey What You Think question on the Sega Addicts twitter! Your answers will be read out on next week’s episode so keep ‘em coming!
Wreck-It Ralph trailer confirms Robotnik cameo
Jun 10th
Whilst we did tell you about this a while ago, it only seems appropriate to post the trailer for the actual movie while it’s new. For those of you not in the know however, Disneys new movie features an appearance by Robotnik (or Eggman or whatever you kids call him now), in a scene with various other videogame villains as well. You can spot him at about 1 minute into that video if you want to skip most of the trailer.
But then again even the other stuff in that trailer looks awesome anyway. A Disney made videogame movie? Yes please. Even without Robotnik this is something I’ll be sure to keep my eye on.

These Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion screens are awesome
Apr 5th
So I have to admit that I was a tad cynical when I heard that the 3DS version of Epic Mickey 2 would be inspired by the classic Mega Drive Castle of Illusion games. “Surely this must be some lame PR shlock to get me excited for what will probably be a buggy handheld port” I thought.
Well I guess I was dead wrong since these new awesome screenshots have been released. As you can see just from the header, it’s a very retro inspired game. What’s even more awesome is that it’s being developed by DreamRift, the team behind another retro inspired title for the DS, Monster Tale. The game will even follow on from the previous Illusion games as the story concerns the possible destruction of the castles from the original games.
But where are my manners! Hit the jump to see the rest of these awesome screenshots!

3DS Epic Mickey is a follow-up to Castle of Illusion
Mar 27th
Well, this is unexpected and incredibly amazing news. While Junction Point Studios is working on the main console release of Epic Mickey 2, another developer, DreamRift, is hard at work on a 2D game for the 3DS. Titled, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, the game will use all hand drawn sprites and parallax scrolling to add the 3D depth the 3DS is capable of. The most exciting aspect, however, is that the game is not only part of the Epic Mickey series but also heavily inspired by the Sega developed Genesis and Master System game, Castle of Illusion.
So far the main details for the plot of the game is that the queen from Snow White will be the main antagonist and each level will be inspired by various Disney properties. I feel the game is in good hands as DreamRift has made other well-received 2D games like Monster Tale on the DS, but what are your expectations? Were you a fan of the original Castle of Illusion?

Dr. Eggman cameo in new Disney flick
Feb 17th
Wreck-It Ralph, Disney’s 52nd animated feature due for release in Nov 2012, follows the story of the titular character Ralph, an old-school arcade game villain, as he embarks on a quest to prove his worth as a video game hero. The film is being coined by many as a video-game ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit‘ due to the appearances of numerous iconic video game characters, including Sega’s very own Dr. Eggman. Hit the jump for more!
Are Disney bringing back Castle of Illusion?
Oct 4th

If you were a Genesis/Megadrive kid then you may remember Castle of Illusion, the Mickey Mouse platformer that Sega worked on after licensing the character from Disney. Recently, Disney have filed a trademark for Castle of Illusion, registering it specifically under video games. Will Disney do something new? Is it simply just going to be a re-release on the Wii’s virtual console? I’m fine with either, Mickey Mouse platformers back in the day were fantastic.
