Sonic After the Sequel developer announces new game: Sonic Chrono Adventure
Mar 12th
You may remember a great-looking fan project by the name of Sonic After the Sequel. Well, amidst the delay, it will be releasing in April, but the creator, LakeFeperd has already teased us with a new awesome trailer for a game called, Sonic Chrono Adventure.
The game is your basic Sonic platformer, but with a few additions. Time travel will play another role (whether or not it is similar to Sonic CD is to be determined), but what caught my eye was the path-decision in the video. The player is able to travel north, south, east, or west in a level, which is twice as many choices as most 16-bit games used to offer. Along with this, there seem to be some RPG elements, which some are saying will be similar to those found in the Chrono Trigger franchise, hence the title of the game. Along with RPG elements, LakeFeperd has told some sources that there is even a character in the game based on a Chrono Trigger character.
At the end of the trailer, LakeFeperd reassures eager fans of Sonic After the Sequel that the game will release whether or not the soundtrack is done. Either way, both games look great and I can’t wait to see more of them. What do you guys think?

Sonic “After the Sequel” fan game delayed due to lack of music
Jan 28th
Lake Feperd has announced that the fan game “After the Sequel” is being delayed to work on the sound track. Now, while this is a little disappointing, it’s worth noting that music, although important to the final product, is much less an obstacle than pretty much everything else that goes into a game. So this game looks like it’s a lock, given a little more time.
And hopefully it won’t have a key logger built in. Because that kind of sucked.

Sonic XG fan game preview looks very promising
Jan 9th
Sonic fan Joseph Waters has been busy working away at his 2D fan game Sonic XG and has recently released the above preview video. The game is already looking pretty cool, with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles being playable over a range of imaginative levels. New power ups are shown, including a strange cloning effect, and chaos emeralds can be collected to enable super forms.
I love watching videos of fans games such as Sonic After the Sequel and Sonic ERaZor that aim to extend the the 2D Sonic gaming experience. I just hope a final version of Sonic XG is at some point completed and released. Check out the demo here.
The ‘XG’ stands for ‘Extended Genesis’ by the way.

NEO XYX: A new Dreamcast game by NG:DEV.TEAM
Sep 20th
German developers NG:DEV.TEAM have recently announced a new addition to their line of Dreamcast, NEOGEO MVS and AES games titled NEO XYX, set for release sometime in 2013. In a somewhat similar fashion to their Redux: Dark Matter kick-starter project, money from pre-orders will go into developing the game further, adding more features than it would otherwise have. The downside is that NG:DEV.TEAM are only taking pre-orders for the Neo Geo MVS version at a current price of €399.
Nevertheless, the Dreamcast version will still be coming out, and any addition to the Dreamcast’s library is met by the console’s fans with open arms. We’ll keep you updated on NEO XYX as we get more details, but for now you can check out the game’s store page and FAQ section for more information.

A Mega Drive emulator… On an eReader?
Sep 18th
A creative Youtube user by the name of ndncnbvcuyuys has released a video showing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 running via an emulator on his Android based Nook Simple Touch. According to the video’s description the eReader, running Andriod 2.1, has been unlocked and is also running an app named NoRefresh to disable the device from constantly refreshing.
The results are surprising, considering the device’s primary purpose is displaying static text. Sonic 2 seems to run pretty quickly and, despite the game being monochrome, doesn’t look all that bad. The user describes a delay in button pressing and it’s pretty clear by the video that the emulator is nothing more than an experiment, and is certainly no alternative to the Sega Nomad.

New SG-1000 & SC-3000 game confirmed: Astrododge by Revival Studios
Sep 10th
During my visit to Retro Game Beurs Deurne, a retro game fair in the Dutch town of Deurne, I bumped into Martijn Wenting of Revival Studios; a retro game collector and developer with releases on the Vectrex, Sinclair ZX-81, Videopac/Magnavox Odyssey 2 and more. During our talk he confirmed that the mysterious Sega SG-1000 homebrew game developed by Revival Studios, which we reported on last month, is indeed named ‘Astrododge’ and will be released as a physical cartridge, as well as in cassette form for the Sega SC-3000 home computer, making it the first game released for the rare, Japanese-only Sega console in almost 30 years.
Not only does Martijn develop the games, he also designs the box art and writes the manuals resulting in a product of high quality and appeal to collectors. The SG-1000 & SC-3000 release come together in a very limited run of 50 copies available for purchase from his website, or from his appearances at various gaming fairs; the reason for the low print run being due to the scarcity of SG-1000/ SC-3000 owners.
It is worth keeping an eye on Revival Studios in the future as well, as Martijn Wenting revealed to me that two Dreamcast games titled ‘Switch’ and ‘Chao’s Adventure’ are set for release in 2013 as well as another, unnamed SG-1000 game with 100 copies planned for production depending on the success of Astrododge. Check out the Revival Studios website here, and hit the jump to see a larger photo of Astrododge, Revival Studios’ Videopac releases and a picture of the main man himself. SAGE 2012 opens its online doors today, LakeFeperd releases fan game remake early
Aug 6th
The 17th annual Sonic Amateur Games Expo (SAGE), an online exposition for developers and players of Sonic the Hedgehog fan games of all shapes and sizes, opens its electronic doors to viewers later today. This year’s expo is at this point shrouded in mystery with no details of which games and projects will be on display, or even the identities of the organisers.
This being said, Sonic fan-gaming superstar LakeFeperd was thought to be unveiling the finished version of his highly anticipated, and simply astounding Sonic After the Sequel at the expo. However, to the surprise of many, he has prematurely released a revamped version of Sonic After the Sequel‘s predecessor, Sonic Before the Sequel named Sonic Before the Sequel ’12 which can be downloaded on the game’s website. In addition to this LakeFeperd has made available the game’s newly re-worked soundtrack in full for download via the following Mediafire site.
A Sonic After the Sequel related announcement is probably going to be made at SAGE 2012, as well as the unveiling of many other exciting fan games. Be sure to check out the expo’s site to see the event unfold and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Sonic demands satisfaction in this hilarious GTA IV mod
Jul 30th
If you’ve been visiting this site for a while you’ll know that I love me some Sonic mods. Today is no different as I share with you all the above video of a GTA IV mod featuring the blue blur himself, a mod that I have personally dubbed ‘Sonic Adventure 3′.
Clearly annoyed with all of the frenemies he’s made over the years stealing the spotlight, Sonic has trained in solitude to achieve the level of powers thought unique to all of his pointless side-kicks. Armed with the physic abilities of Silver, Shadow’s expertise with firearms, and Tail’s ability to fly, Sonic goes on a rampage through Liberty City destroying all those who ever doubted him as the world greatest gaming mascot.
I made all of that up of course, but even without a back story the video is nothing short of hilarious. Check out 2:40 for my favourite part and let me know what you think in the comments below!
