Sega to fix Sonic 1 on iOS with free update
Mar 30th
It seems Sega isn’t happy with the way Sonic’s first outing have been represented on the app store, which is why they’re planning a huge update that’s set to fix the port’s issues for free. This new version is being reworked to play more like the extremely better Sonic CD port (because those controls actually worked) which will include a new engine, less visually intrusive buttons, and the ability to switch the spin attack off or on. This newer version of the game will also run at a smoother 60 frames per second and will feature bonus content in the guise of a box art gallery.
Honestly this needed to happen sooner. As much as I love Sonic this version was trash and I’m glad that Sega are now planning to up the quality as the app store has gained much more notoriety since 2009, when this poor port was released. Now wake me up when they fix Sonic 2 on iOS as well!

Phantasy Star Online 2 released for Vita in Japan and it’s free as a cucumber
Nov 28th
The Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 was released today in Japan and like it’s PC big brother, the game is entirely free to download and play. That’s cool and all but what do you think of the fact that Vita and PC players can play together in the same virtual world? Or how about the ability to use the same character on both platforms so you can take your PC character on the go by continuing to play and level up on the Vita version? That’s a neat little thing.
In addition to the free download version Sega has released a physical version of the game that includes a few benefits. For 5229 yen ($64) buyers get:
- Costumes and weapons from Phantasy Star Portable 2
- A Mag evolution device
- Fun 1000 ticket (that’s 1000 times the fun!)
- 30 days of Premium Set (now that’s a premium deal!)
- Little Wing Stickers (I don’t know what that is!)
- And some music from Phantasy Star Portable 1 & 2

Spiral Knights is available to play now
Apr 4th
Well that was quick. From what only seems like a short while since it was revealed, Spiral Knights (Sega’s free to play RPG) is out for all you lovely Sega Addicts to play here.
For those of you not in the loop, this RPG has been in development for 4 years. The folks at Three Rings seemed to have worked day and night at it, so everyone who owns a Mac, PC and indeed Linux could play it. So now that I’ve got you hyped, you can go play it from the link above. It’s free so why not? Exactly.
