Travel through time with the Time Soldiers re-release on PSN
Jul 26th
This post goes out to all the Sega Master System Addicts out there!
Some of you may remember a little game called, Time Soldiers for Sega’s lovely little 8-bit system. On the Master System, Time Soldiers was a port of a vertical run-and-gun shooter that SNK developed for the arcade. The game plays very similarly to other games of the genre like Commando but there is a twist… you travel through time! So, that’s where the name comes from…
Well, it appears that SNK hasn’t forgotten this game and this week they will be releasing the arcade original on the Playstation Store as a Mini. I’m looking forward to checking it out and for the price of $1.99 all I have to do is eat two less things off of Wendy’s Value Menu this week.

ToeJam & Earl “tear the roof off the sucka” soon on PSN
Jul 23rd
A little birdie has slipped that ToeJam & Earl may be venturing to the PlayStation Network in the future with both of their Sega Genesis/Megadrive games. With the recent Vintage Collection releases, and other games slated for release, this news may not come as a total shock to some. As a fan of the 16-bit iterations of TJ&E’s adventures, I can say that this would be an awesome addition to any digital library even though they have seen life on the Wii’s Virtual Console already. This release also sparks the faint idea: will ToeJam & Earl be announced as additional racers in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed? For the love of funk, I hope so!
What say you, fair funky friends?

Sonic Adventure 2 HD rerelease confirmed
Jul 14th
Sonic Boom 2012 is well ahead of E3 in terms of exciting Sega announcements, with the very recent news of a Wreck-It Ralph bidirectional crossover as well as this, official confirmation of a HD rerelease of Sonic Adventure 2 for the PSN and XBLA as part of the ‘Sega Heritage’ series.
The self-proclaimed ‘Masters of Secrecy’ are the first to highlight the numerous proverbial cats they’ve unwittingly let out of various bags, making reference to both Sonic 4 games as well as Sonic Generations, and Sonic Adventure 2 (SA2) has been no different. We’ve had a leaked list of XBLA games which included SA2, avatar items being added to the Xbox Live marketplace, as well as a whole Xbox Live game entry which also practically acted as a PSN release confirmation. This being said, I’m surprised at the Sonic Boom crowd’s shocked reaction to the news but am still over the moon that I’ll have an excuse to play my guilty pleasure one more time.
Are you flabbergasted by the video, or did you pretty much accept that this game was coming a few months ago like we did? Let us now in the comments below!

The Sega Addicts Speak!: Saturn Games We’d Like to See in HD
Jul 14th
The recent announcement of an HD re-release of NiGHTs Into Dreams has gotten us Sega Addicts a little excited. So excited that we can’t stop thinking about other Saturn games we’d love to see on modern consoles again with an HD coat of paint and a new audience to impress.

The Sega Addicts Kids Table: Episode 45 – NiGHTS Into Smack
Jul 12th
Well after that last insane episode, The Sega Addicts Kids Table seems to be back at it’s offensive best! With Stevie joining Josh and John again for another series of tantalizing (and non family friendly) topics, the show is back on track… and then we fuck it all up by insulting the homeless and talking about internet porn for a bit.
However that’s not to say that we don’t talk about relevant things! Since last week was big for the NiGHTS franchise we spend a good deal of time discussing the upcoming HD re-release of NiGHTS Into Dreams and the characters upcoming appearance in Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed at the London 2012 Olympic Games: The College Years Strike Back. Oh and Phantasy Star Online 2. But only for a minute.
Or take a trip to our iTunes and subscribe! Have you considered reviewing us? Well you really should. All the cool kids are doing it! Give into the peer pressure and do it!
NiGHTS Into Dreams HD remake coming to XBLA and PSN [UPDATE: and PC!]
Jul 5th
If there’s any Saturn franchise that deserves a place on the lavish HD consoles of today, it has to be NiGHTS. The original game’s vibrant, dazzlingly colorful stages stand out on the Saturn even now, and this generation of gritty, grey shooters is aching for a generous injection of whimsy and charm. After a sub-par Wii sequel and years of fan lamentation, our dreams (see what I did there?) are finally coming true. Today, on the game’s 16th birthday, Sega announced that it is bringing an HD remake of the original classic to the XBLA and PSN [UPDATE: The game will also be hitting the PC].
In addition to a complete overhaul of the visuals, this new version will offer a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, leaderboards, achievements/trophies, and the option to play with the original vintage blocky graphics in a Saturn Mode.
Honestly, this might be my favorite idea that Sega has revealed since Sonic Generations. It simultaneously shows respect to retro fans, modern gaming enthusiasts, and all of the Sega Addicts desperate to see a beloved franchise get its due. I can only hope this is an indication of where the company will go as a largely digital publisher in the future.
The game will be released this Fall.

USA saves the world again: 4th of July sale on PSN, iOS, XBLA, Android
Jul 4th
Okay so maybe we Yanks have been a bit bullish for the last twenty years or so. Sorry about that. Really. Here’s some savings to make up for it. Sega is having a 4th of July sale on digital titles across all the major distribution platforms and you don’t have to be from the USA to get in on it. PSN and iOS users are the big winners here but there’s a little something for everyone. Well, everyone except the glorious PC master race. Steam got left out for some reason.

House of the Dead 3 is between 30% and 50% off on PSN this week
Jul 2nd
If you’re as sweaty and uncomfortable as I am, you know what I mean when I say that summertime is in full swing. That comes with a bevy of seasonal perks, like watermelon, cookouts, blockbuster movies, and beaches. But if you’re a gamer, the sweltering summer sun comes with another exciting promise–digital download sales!
Starting July 3rd (tomorrow) and going on through the end of the week, Sony will be promoting their creatively named “Summer Sale 2012,” and will be offering significant price cuts on 11 different games, with a 30% discount going to normal users and a chunky 50% discount going to Playstation Plus members.
Among these solid games is the Move-supported version of House of the Dead 3, which will now be going for the insanely slim prices of $4.89 and $3.42. While some argue that 3 is one of the weaker entries in the series, I really enjoyed my time with its campy, ridiculous charms. If you were on the fence about it before, now is the time to take the measly $5 leap. Hell, if you don’t have a Move and don’t mind playing a light gun game without a light gun, HOTD 3 even handles surprisingly well with a controller.
The promotion also includes sizable price cuts for Shadow of the Colossus ($13.99/9.79), the full season of Jurassic Park the Game ($13.99/9.79), Gotham City Imposters ($10.49/7.34), and several others.
Anyone planning on picking some of these up? I’m seriously considering snagging Jurassic Park myself, but anybody who knows me has already assumed that.

Review: Sega Vintage Collection: Golden Axe
Jun 25th
How many copies of Golden Axe do you own? How many of those copies are actually cartridges? If you are anything like me then you have at least three different versions of the game, not for the sole purpose of being a fan of the series, but because Sega has a tendency to include their classic games on as many platforms as possible. Golden Axe has seen light on everything from Genesis and Gamecube, to Commodore 64 and even iOS. This begs the question, is this collection really worth your hard earned Bill Gates Bucks or Kevin Butler Dollars? Hit the jump button to find out, young beast rider! More >
Sonic Adventure 2 XBLA release confirmed, PSN release hinted
Jun 19th
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Hopefully you’ll remember our report on a leaked list of upcoming XBLA games as well as the release of Sonic Adventure 2 avatar items on XBLA which were both solid indicators of Sonic’s second adventure in a truly 3D environment being released on XBLA. Well, a future XBLA release of Sonic Adventure 2 has been confirmed via its recent addition to the XBLA web-based marketplace.
From the description and available screenshots it would seem that not only will the game be in HD, with online leaderboards, but will also feature the head-to-head two player gameplay from the game’s enhanced GameCube iteration, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. In the image above, which has been cropped, braking is clearly shown to be carried out by the circle button… Gasp! Perhaps this indicates a PSN release? Unfortunately, no further details have been given and with a scheduled release of October 3rd 2012, there’s no real rush to get them. Nevertheless, this is exciting news for Sonic Adventure 2 fans like myself begging for a reason to play the game once more. Lets us know your thoughts in the comments below!
