Bug Blasters and Star Strike get limited CD reissues
Jan 20th
Bizarre oddities they may be, Bug Blasters and Star Strike are actually very rare retro collectors items. These FMV games (originally made by Sony) were dropped before release despite being ready to unleash on those unfortunate enough to own a Sega CD. The rights to both games were then bought in 2001 by Good Deal Games for a 5 copy release of each game in Europe.
And that’s not a typo. Exactly 5 copies. Which is kind of ironic since only about 3 people owned those add-ons anyway. But if you ever wanted a copy of either (because you are a retro collector or mad), a Retro Collect user by the pseudonym ‘mr_gibbage’ has bought the rights for the PAL versions of the titles from Good Deal Games and is offering a slightly less, yet still limited run of the FMV classics on eBay. Right now they go for about £35 a pop but you can get both of them for almost £65. A bit pricey perhaps, but you can you really put a price on filling up that one hole in your Sega collection? For Bug Blasters… I think not. As we’ve established before it’s pretty amazing.

Ok then… Sonic Underground now available on iTunes
Jan 12th
Man who remembers this show? Way back in 1990 it seems Sega didn’t think their furry blue mascot was rockin’ enough, so they decided to put together this gem on a cartoon: Sonic Underground. That’s right, have you ever desperately wanted to hear the tale of Sonic and two characters no one’s heard of before, go on a hardcore rock odyssey of adventure? No? Well if you have a change of heart then the good news is that all 40 episodes of the original series are up for grabs on iTunes!
The whole series is spread across two volumes at $27.99 each. However if you want to relive your cheesy nostalgia in bite sized chunks then single episodes can be purchased for about $2.
It should be noted that this is the first Sonic cartoon to make it onto iTunes, so if you want to support future ventures it may be a good idea to give this a shot. But here’s the biggest dilemma… does anyone actually remember this show fondly? Anyone? If so leave me a comment explaining why, and if this iTunes collection is for you.

Mega Drive Tetris cart selling for $1 million
Jul 29th
As far as videogame rarities go, the Sega mega Drive version of Tetris is among one of the most obscure and expensive. So when you go on ebay looking for one you’d expect a pretty hefty price right? Well that’s certainly what you get because ebay user ‘shinsnk’ has priced the rare Japanese cart for one million dollars. Granted it is signed but is that really worth a million? Apparently so.
I wonder if some dumb rich guy will be dumb and rich enough to buy it. Well if you are the listing is here. And after you buy it can I have a million please? If you’re gonna buy that you might as well give me some money since you’re so inclined to waste it.

The Sun celebrates Sonic and the Sony Mega Drive
Jun 23rd
So it seems all the British news outlets have been joining in on Sonic’s anniversary today. Even laughable British tabloid The Sun even saw it fit to celebrate it too with a fitting tribute to Sony’s mascot, and it’s console the Sony Mega Drive! What a touching tribute indeed. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get hacked though because that is a danger for 20 year old consoles.

Colonel Sanders to be a playable character in Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity… what?
Sep 18th
…what? Sorry… what? Well Sega revealed a new character for the upcoming Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity. And the exciting character they revealed was none other than… the guy from the KFC bucket. I’m being serious here. The reasoning for this is that KFC recently had it’s 40th anniversary in Japan. So Sega wanted to celebrate this, I guess.
The colonel will even have this own attacks and you can go on missions with him. I swear I’m not making this up. Damn. I guess no one expected this news! What do you think? Is this the strangest extra character you’ve ever heard of? Let me know in the comment box. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have the weirdest urge to go stuff my face with disgusting fried chicken.

Yakuza of the End to have zombies, I’m suddenly much less excited
Sep 15th
SegaBits reports that Yakuza of the End, the seventh game in the series, will have zombies in it.
I assumed this was a joke but noooo, something else I love has to have zombies crammed into it. I really, really hope this is a dream sequence, or a minigame, or some kind of weird non-canonical part of the game.
I am so damn tired of zombies being shoved into every nerd property because people will eat this crap up. The undead have become the bacon of fictional media. With breakfast, it’s amazing. Bacon is a fantastic entree but I don’t need it on every pizza/sandwich/milkshake that I ingest throughout the day.
“Why don’t you just not order bacon?”
Well in this case, I may have to.
