Canadian animator creates fake Drive Genesis intro
May 14th
Canadian John Fraser has created a fake title screen for a reimagining of 2011′s Drive for the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive. Fraser shared his method for making the intro on his Youtube account:
9-bit colour, divvied up into 4 palettes of 15+alpha colours each, just like momma used to make. built in slices in photoshop, and scrolled past each other at different speeds. the song was made with an emulator for the Yamaha YM2612, the chip used to create the sound in the sega genesis.
I haven’t seen the film Drive myself and therefore can’t comment on how accurate Fraser’s fake title screen is, but… Well, Mega Drive!

Another World 20th Anniversary Edition launches on Steam
Apr 5th
Eric Chahi’s Another World is considered by many to be one of the most influential cinematic platformers to date. The Genesis classic was first released in 1991 and has since been ported to various platforms such as iOS, and now more specifically Steam. This new PC version is the 20th Anniversary Edition which features new difficulty modes, achievements, video extras, and a remastered HD presentation fit for a king. The newly released port also features controller support and is a very reasonable $9.99.
You can buy the game from Steam here. I’m personally very interested in this port as it’s unique atmosphere makes the game unlike anything from that era. But what about you? Will you be buying this? Have you played this game before (perhaps under the name Out of this World?), or are you not interested in it at all? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Sega addresses Shining Force on YouTube mess
Mar 20th
A little while back Sega pulled a bit of a curious move in taking down numerous Shining Force videos from YouTube, but 5 months later have finally commented on the matter. In the original mess, many accounts were targeted including hugely popular, gaming YouTuber TotalBiscuit and even led to accounts being permanently banned. At the time, Sega claimed the videos had been illegally uploaded and though they usually didn’t mind, in these situations their property had been “slandered.”
They have now announced over at NeoGAF however that they have “no further plans to remove Shining Force videos uploaded to Youtube.” Likewise, if you were affected by the mishap to “please get in touch” with them, so it definitely looks like Sega are biting their tongue on this one.
And if you’re in the mood for more Shining Force, check out footage of the upcoming Shining Force Cross title here.
Hyperkin announce the RetroN 4
Mar 6th
Hyperkin, predominantly sellers of third party accessories, have announced their follow up to the hugely popular RetroN 3, a series of hybrid retro consoles. In addition to previously being able to play SNES, NES and Genesis games, the new console now allows the play of GBA too, though one of its most exciting new features is the HDMI output – allowing you to finally have a tidy set-up, at least in my case.
As well as those, it boasts a new operating system inviting you to change the controls and pick platform, with more to be announced. Otherwise it carries a similar design to its predecessor with cartridge slots for each console, two controller ports each and a wireless Bluetooth pad.
Check out the RetroN 3 to see what we liked about it so much in our review. Hyperkin are intending to unveil the hardware at the Midwest Gaming Classic trade show in Wisconsin on March 23rd.

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure theme gets the Genesis treatment
Jan 7th
I’m a sucker for anything retro. Even if it’s not really retro. YouTube user IAmArique’s gift to the world is the Jojo theme song remixed Genesis style. It’s worth a listen if only for the quirkiness and with this title, quirky is kind of the point.

Pier Solar HD successfully kickstarted
Dec 1st
When I first found out about Pier Solar I was both excited and disappointed. Yes a new huge Mega Drive RPG is awesome news, but without a personal Genesis to call my own any more, I could only dream of what this independent gem had to offer. However with it’s successful Kickstarter campaign, us modern console owners should be able to play the game soon. And in HD no less!
The game is now coming to Xbox 360, Mac, PC, Linux, and even the Dreamcast! There’s also 3 more days to go on the Kickstarter so you can still help the game make it to the Wii U! I don’t know about you guys but I’m excited. I’ve been waiting for a way to try this out on my desktop and soon it will be available for us all to experience! No word on a release date yet but with this Kickstarter we can probably expect something soon. We here at Sega Addicts will keep you in the loop as more developments are stated and in the meantime you can contribute to the Kickstarter page here.

Install more “Blast Processing” in your house with this Mega Drive poster
Oct 4th
Jake Smith and Dan Clarke, have created something that everyone reading this site needs: Mega Drive/Sega Genesis posters. These posters are limited to 100 copies and look very nice. Their simplicity of this poster incorporating the Model 1 Mega Drive/Genesis is very modern, yet still captures an image of the 90s well in my opinion. Who wants to buy me one?

Genezap shock collar brings pain into retro Sega games
Aug 8th
Have you ever found yourself playing Golden Axe but wanting for a more thrilling experience? Perhaps an electrical one? Well it seems that some maniacs have already done with a device known as the ‘Genezap’. The Genezap is a device created by two French gamers known as ‘Dyak’ and ‘Furrtek’. In the shortened video above you can see them test out the classic Sega beat em up, but with zaps of electrical currents sent through a shock collar every time they lose health.
They even have instructions (in French) on how to hook up your own! So who here is brave enough to try this? In fact screw Golden Axe, we should see what would happen if someone took on Shinobi or Comix Zone! Now the poor soul who tries that, I do feel sorry for.

Happy 21st Birthday Sonic!
Jun 23rd
That’s right guys! In case you forgot, today was indeed Sonic the Hedgehog’s day of birth anniversary (otherwise known as a ‘Birthday’)! On this day Sonic has turned 21 meaning that he can now drink alcohol in the USA! Hooray! Go get shit-faced old friend. Just think about it though. Only 21 small years ago our favourite rodent was born into a bitter world. A world which he would brighten up with numerous speedy adventures and edgy quips. Sonic the Hedgehog was released in America 21 years ago, exactly on this date. Does that make you feel old?
I’m personally going to pop in Sonic Generations for a quick fix. It works well since it’s an anniversary game too. But enough about me, how do you plan to celebrate? Let me know in the comments!
