Sega Studios Australia closes its doors
Apr 7th
Sega Studios Australia has unfortunately been slated to shut down. The news was broken in a post on Kotaku where Sega explained that the studio will be closed “later this year”. The development team had previously made Medieval 2: Total War as a division of The Creative Assembly and has since completed the London Olympics tie-in game.
Last year Sega Studios Australia laid off 37 employees before starting on a “multi-product deal focussing across the digital marketplace.” No word on what has happened to this deal yet but at the time of writing nothing has been confirmed. However my heart goes out to all the workers made redundant by this decision, and I really hope this worrying trend stops immediately. We’ll update you with more as this story progresses.

David Gibbins set to write Total War book series
Oct 11th
To promote the upcoming Total War: Rome 2, Sega has set up a four book series deal with publisher Thomas Dunne Books. The novels are due to hit late next year starting with the first launching next October. The books are due to be written by David Gibbins, a successful writer who has been known to draw from his archaeologist background for his various adventure stories.
When talking to The Book Seller publisher Jeremy Trevathan explained his excitement for the upcoming cross-promotion:
We are delighted to be working with one of the most successful games franchises on the market. What is also particularly exciting is that they have an in-built, committed community of players who are emotionally engaged with the games and who have told their researchers that they are hungry for more ‘story-telling’ within the games and around the games.
So it looks like Total War fans have a lot of stuff to look forward to! However with the games release date still unannounced it will be a while until these goodies surface. In the meantime we’ll keep you updated on all the cross-promotion that’s sure to continue until the game launches next year.

Total War Battles: Shogun dev diary hits the web
May 30th
I have to admit that while they’re basically just trailers, I do like developer diaries. They always have a hint of insider information that I would never have guessed before, and it seems that the diary for Total War Battles: Shogun is no different. In the video above you can also see new footage from the iOS spin off, as well as some commentary from the folks at The Creative Assembly.
So that was the first in a series of videos being pumped out by Sega to promote the app. What do you think? Are you interested, or do you just not care? Let me know in the comments!

In the video, Mr. Roxburgh explains how the improved ‘Avatar Conquest Mode’ includes more maps and provinces as well as new skill trees for multiple avatars and units.
