Retro Review: Space Channel 5 (Dreamcast)

The most impressive thing about Space Channel 5 is how it combines every single cliche in gaming yet the final result is intensely memorable. Grab your checklist: There is an impossibly well proportioned, gun toting heroine. The plot involves a savage alien attack on unsuspecting mankind. The gameplay is typical rhythm-button input. This would be a formula for a yawn-fest but Sega added one last ingredient to the mix, something rare and precious in the world of big name game development: Style.

Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing get release dates

Well, FINALLY! Both games come to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Netork on October 4th for PlayStation 3 and on October 5th for Xbox 360. Now, I’m really looking forwad to this since I haven’t gotten any chance yet to play Ulala’s second outing! How about you?

Ulala returns with Space Channel 5: Part 2 on PSN and XBLA

Finally some good news for fans of Ulala and Space Channel 5. While the second game of the series is available on Disc on the first Dreamcast collection and on Steam, the XBLA and PSN versions will be available in Japan on October 5. No date is given yet for Western markets, but my guess is it won’t take too long after Japan gets its hands on it! Sega Bass Fishing will be out the samte time too!

Space Channel 5 developer shows off style guide

With all of the hype over Space Channel 5: Part 2′s re-release, many have forgotten about the first game in the series. Former Sega developer Jake Kazdal revealed images from Space Channel 5′s style guide while at the 2011 Game Developers Conference this week. There are many parallels to 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as concept art for Ulala. You can catch images from the style guide after the jump. More >
