Sega is one of the UK’s top publishers

It’s not all lay-offs and “resource consolidation” at the house that Sonic built, despite the depressing prevalence of those stories. MCVUK.com has published a list of the top ten “boxed game” (as in you can buy a physical copy of it) publishers in the United Kingdom. Sega is number six, behind Microsoft and Nintendo. Not bad considering this list represents physical sales in an era where much of Sega’s focus is on downloadable media.
Some part of me is smiling that Square-Enix is at the bottom of the list, well below Sega. On the subject of game companies that have lost their way…

Goodnight sweet prince: The end of the Game Gear TV Tuner
Apr 23rd
Sega Memories contributor The GagaMan(n) posted a somewhat depressing video a couple of days ago of the technological wonder that is the Sega Game Gear TV Tuner receiving the last trickle of analogue, terrestrial television in the United Kingdom. While I had thought that the digital switch over complete, The GagaMan(n) managed to pick up the ITV ‘classic’ This Morning. Unfortunately, once the nation’s television is broadcast in an entirely digital format, ‘zany’ devices such as Sega’s TV Tuner will become unusable relics of times past.
Still have analogue television where you live? Do you actually have one of these tuners and a working Game Gear? Did your mum ever make you watch This Morning as a child like mine did? Let us know in the comments below!
